In this eLearning course, pro skier Daron Rahlves and PSIA Alpine Team member Jennifer Weier will take you through videos dissecting proper turns, expert advice to help improve your mental approach, and drills that will help you put your new skills to use. Often the best snow is in the trees, and this online class will help you access it.

Over the course of several weeks, you’ll watch video trainings that show you exactly how to hone your turns and teach you how to train your mind to build the kind of confidence that allows you to excel in all conditions. Weier and Rahlves will share safety advice for skiing the trees, teach drills that will make it easier to turn quickly, and show you how to identify and ski the right line. You’ll learn how to tree ski in hard and soft snow as well as moguls, how to properly plant your poles, and tactics to manage your speed.

What type of skier do I need to be to take this course?

This course is intended for individuals who can ski at least a blue run.

What equipment do I need for this course?

At a minimum, you should have a full ski setup, or the ability to rent one:

• Skis suitable for the terrain you want to tackle (wider for powder days; narrower for moguls and packed snow)
• Ski boots
• Poles
• Helmet
• Goggles

About the Author

Daron Rahlves grew up in northern California and currently lives in Truckee, where he regularly skis around Lake Tahoe. His professional ski career started in 1993, and in 2010 he competed in ski cross in the Winter Olympics in Vancouver. He retired from the U.S. Ski team in 2006 and remains one of the most decorated skiers in U.S. history. Thus far, Rahlves has collected 28 World Cup podiums, three World Championship medals, and a Hahnenkamm Downhill title. In 2011, Rahlves created the Rahlves Banzai Tour, a downhill ski and snowboard race. And skiing trees? Well, they’re kind of like unforgiving gates!

Jennifer Weier has been a long-time ski instructor at resorts in Colorado, and she’s recognized as one of the country’s best by the Professional Ski Instructors of America. Currently, she is a ski instructor at Aspen Snowmass and is on the PSIA Alpine Team, a group of the best ski instructors in the country who help teach ski instructors how to teach skiing (aka: the best of the best when it comes to ski instructors). Weier is an PSIA examiner in the Rocky Mountain Division and does private clinics for ski instructors. Plus, in the off-season, she works as an emergency room nurse in Minnesota.
